Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub Ref. 20369-1 - 'MK3'

Sale price$6,950.00 USD

Gerald Genta. Universal Geneve. Super Compressor. Micro-Rotor.

That’s a lot of buzz words - but all of them accurately describe the incredible and unusual Universal Geneve Polerouter Sub Mk1 Ref. 20369-1 SuperCompressor. Let’s abbreviate to UGPS! As many have heard, the Universal Geneve Polerouter (the normal one!) was designed by 23 year old Gerald Genta for UG on behalf of the Scandinavian Airlines who was looking to celebrate their new Polar route. The incredibly elegant Polerouter design was a hit commercially, and a few years later Gerald Genta was tasked with creating a sea-faring version of his dressy aviators watch.

Utilizing the Micro-Rotor movement of the Polerouter, and the Super Compressor case from EPSA - the first generation UGPS was born in 1962! Measuring 42mm with two crowns for the inner rotating bezel and the other for timekeeping, this is no dainty skin-diver... The different size crowns are a hallmark of the very earliest Mk1 UGPS models and thought to be useful to divers wearing gloves who needed to operate the rotating bezel. One of the most interesting items about these Mk1 watches, are the dials themselves. The dial is a deep black gilt-gloss color, but features non-luminous hour markers printed in white with small lume plots at the outer edge of each marker. The white hour markers typically age to a yellow hue over time, which has occurred on the present example you see here.

Hard to believe that under this highly advanced technical watch beats a highly decorated in-house micro-rotor movement from one of the greatest names in watch history - but indeed it does, and now is your opportunity to make this piece of a history a piece in your collection.

*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
