Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 1680/8 - 'Nipple' Dial

The Rolex Submariner is a true icon - and the word icon does get thrown around a lot. If you were to ask 10 people to draw you their idea of a watch looks like - chances are they would draw or describe something that looks like a Rolex Submariner. It’s the dive watch of reference good/bad/indifferent there is no escaping it. Over its 70 year run there have been numerous changes made to the model, but of all the variants - solid gold Submariners have a special place in our hearts (and collections!).

The Rolex Submariner is true tool watch - meant for and used by the most serious divers of all time. That being said, in 2023 how many of us are really using these for underwater exploration? When Rolex first introduced the Solid Gold Submariner, it was elevating this ‘everyman’ icon to a level of true prestige and luxury - desk diver reporting for duty!

The present example is a beautifully preserved watch that has been carefully maintained. The gold ‘Nipple’ dial is in truly flawless condition, and the lume is stunning. The bezel show gentle signs of aging - a rarity as so many of these have been exchanged for service bezels at some point. The case has been expertly polished by an expert showing excellent case bevels and thick and even lugs. Furthermore, this Submariner is fitted to its original 18K Yellow Gold Oyster bracelet making this a truly a special piece, and with the 70th Anniversary of the Submariner in 2023, what better way to celebrate.

*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.

"As collectors themselves, Oliver and Clarke are on a mission to make buying vintage watches as painless as possible."

"The company focuses on good prices for its pieces, elite customer service and full transparency."

"The appointment-only space is inviting, with comfortable seating areas and exposed brick walls."

From Rolex & Patek Philippe, to Cartier & Audemars Piguet. As collectors first, we love the small details that separate the Submariner from Daytona and Calatrava from Royal Oak. This is why you'll find our curated assortment spans decades of generations of models and brands. We believe that watches don't just tell time, they tell history - and life is too short to wear a boring watch.
