Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 16610LV - Flat 4 'Kermit'
Straight Facts
The Rolex Submariner is a true icon - and the word icon does get thrown around a lot. If you were to ask 10 people to draw you their idea of a watch looks like - chances are they would draw or describe something that looks like a Rolex Submariner. It’s the dive watch of reference good/bad/indifferent there is no escaping it. Over its 70 year run there have been numerous changes made to the model, but this present 16610LV represents a celebration of its 50th Year.
While the Rolex Submariner came out in 1953, it wasn’t until the Ref. 1680 in 1967 that it featured a date. The Submariner Date has of course gone on to become the top-selling variant of the Submariner family. With that in mind, for the 50th Anniversary in 2003 Rolex decided to do something special. They introduced the Ref. 16610 LV. LV standing for ‘lunette verde’ or green bezel - and they say Rolex has no imagination! The watch was an immediate hit and ended up in production long beyond the 50th Anniversary year, earning the collector nickname of the ‘Kermit’. This is an early ‘LV’ which you can tell from its highly desirable Flat 4 Bezel - where the ‘4’ in the Bezel has a flat bottom as apposed to the pointed intersection on most Kermit models from the era. This small designation is exactly the kind of detail we love as watch collectors!
Combined with the overall outstanding condition, a flawless dial and exceptional case - with the attractive Kermit Green bezel. This is a special one, and with the 70th Anniversary of the Submariner in 2023, what better way to celebrate, than by looking back to its 50th Anniversary!
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
