Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref. 6084 - Black 'Gilt' Patina Dial

Sale price$7,850.00 USD

If you boil Rolex down to its purest form, what do you get?
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual. This is truly the genesis for the entire Rolex brand. The very first Rolex models were called ‘Oysters’ which was owed to their innovative three part case that all screwed into each-other. This watch represents an evolution of that, when these were still semi-bubble back watches.
The piece that we have here, simply know as an Oyster Perpetual, is a descendant of those early watches, though is probably not what first comes to mind when your hear Oyster Perpetual...
Dating to circa 1963, this 34mm piece is possesses some incredibly attractive and charming characteristics and is a rare combination of dial and case. It is constructed out of solid 14k yellow gold and is in seemingly unpolished condition. The lugs remain symmetrical at all four corners and it shows normal signs of wear for its age. The smooth yellow gold bezel is in matching condition. The real highlight of this piece, is that black 'gilt' dial inside. The glossy surface has aged over the years to a semi-matte texture, reminiscent of the meteorite dials found in some modern offerings from The Crown. The patina is uniform and presents beautifully, all while the 'gilt' chapter ring and text remaining perfectly legible and clear. Additionally, the applied 'pencil' indices and matching 'dauphine' handset are a welcome combination and stunning to see on a black dial.
Despite being ‘entry-level’ these vintage OPs offer a ton of character and remain an overlooked part of the important history of Rolex on their journey to the powerhouse brand that they are today. Don't let the case size fool you, these 34mm Rolex models are chronically slept on and present great value next to its more well-known siblings, while truly embodying the essence of Rolex.

And you cant go wrong with a dial and handset reminiscent of a Patek Philippe Ref. 2526...
