Rolex Oyster 'Hooded Lug' - Champagne 'Bow Tie' Dial 'C. Bucherer's' Signature

Sale price$7,950.00 USD

If you boil Rolex down to its purest form, what do you get?

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual. This is truly the genesis for the entire Rolex brand. The very first Rolex models were called ‘Oysters’ which was owed to their innovative three part case that all screwed into each-other.

The piece that we have here, simply know as an Oyster, is one of those early watches, utilizing a water-resistant Oyster case, a manual-winding movement, and nothing else. No frills — purely a functional timekeeping device.

Dating to circa 1934, this Oyster is something of an 'elevated' model, crafted out of solid yellow gold with stylized 'hooded' lugs and a beautiful dial inside. The case shows honest signs of wear given it's age and presents nicely. The gold dial feature a multi-tone 'bow tie' motif, with black 'Arabic' numerals and a 'railroad' minute track on the outside, a subsidiary seconds register at the 6 o'clock position, and a blued-steel 'pencil' handset. Look a little closer, and you'll note than rather than any chronometer text on the lower half, this piece is stamped with the name of an early Rolex retailer: 'C. Bucherer.'

Despite being ‘entry-level,' many vintage models from the Oyster family offer a ton of character and remain an overlooked part of the important history of Rolex on their journey to the powerhouse brand that they are today.

And don't let the case size fool you, thanks to the lug design this piece has a way of wearing larger than its dimensions would indicate on paper.
