Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 16750 Pumpkin Unpolished
Straight Facts
The Rolex GMT-Master is one of the most historic and iconic watches the brand ever produced. Although there is a long lineage of this model, the first pieces were commissioned by Pan American World Airways in the early 50’s for their fleet of pilots who needed access to different time zones. These early pieces were too fragile and delicate for the actual life of a pilot and therefor in 1959 the reference 1675 was introduced. This reference featured a larger case as well as crown-guards and an aluminum “Pepsi” bezel insert. But in 1979, Rolex corrected the one quarrel some collectors had with the model, and added a quickset date wheel that could be changed with a simple turn of the crown without having to rotate the time over and over. This efficient mechanism, made the Rolex even more practical for the modern professional, and this incredible example produced in 1986 exemplifies all the things that make the GMT amazing. The case is razor sharp unpolished and the glossy dial features what is the best pumpkin lume I have seen on such a watch. This is a truly special piece and I couldn’t be happier to offer it in the Watch Shop!
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
