Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16550 - 'Cream Dial' Full Set
Straight Facts
The Rolex Explorer’s core has always been in rugged expedition. While it was originally born out of the Everest celebratory Explorer I - the Explorer II was designed for cave diving. Officially known as spelunking!
Like so many Rolex models - there are many different dial variants, and this Explorer II from 1984 is no different. While this watch was born with a snow-white dial, this was part of a highly desirable (and defective) batch of dials who aged to a beautiful cream color. While we have had the privilege of offering cream dials in the past - this one is a cut above.
The richness and depth of cream patina on the dial is truly perfect and makes it stand out from a mile away. Overall, the dial is mint and attractive with correct lume plots that give just the right amount of contrast. In addition to its highly attractive aging, it comes with its complete suite of boxes and papers from the time it was new to present day. The rarity of this watch cannot be understated, and it’s a true crown jewel for any collector, novice or pro.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
