Gübelin Monopusher Chronograph 18K - Gloss Black Dial

Sale price$6,850.00 USD

Gübelin is perhaps best known today as one of Switzerland's most respected luxury jewelers and watch retailers, but the company's influence extends far beyond the exquisite pieces that bear its own name.

Founded in 1854 in Lucerne, Gübelin built its reputation on exceptional craftsmanship, gemological expertise, and close relationships with many of Switzerland's finest watch manufacturers. Throughout the mid-twentieth century, it was common for prestigious retailers like Gübelin to commission watches from renowned manufactures, including the likes of Patek Philippe, Longines, Universal Genève, and others. While many of these pieces featured an additional retailer stamp on the dial of an otherwise ordinary timepiece, they also sold watches that took things one step further.

The piece that we have here is one such example, with a case, movement, and of course, dial all signed Gübelin, and Gübelin only. The case measures a nice and traditional 33mm in diameter, with a yellow gold winding crown, an 'oval' pusher, and a snapback design. The lugs have an elegant profile with a gentle downturn and remain nice and symmetrical. The dial inside is gorgeous, rich glossy black with gold printing throughout and a matching gold 'sword' handset. Powering this piece is a manual-winding monopusher movement from Valjoux.

As it pertains to vintage collecting, this checks a heck of a lot of boxes. The interesting story, legendary movement, and outright rarity, make for one hell of recipe. And thats before considering that potent combination of a deep black dial with a yellow gold case...
