Rolex Day-Date Ref. 1807/9 - White Gold Bark
Straight Facts
There is something to be said about flagship watches - and in the world of Rolex there is no more prestigious watch than the Day-Date, or President. Worn by heads of state, CEOs, celebrities, and anyone who’s ‘made-it’ - the Day-Date has only ever been made in precious metals, and white gold is not only one of the stealthier ways to do a solid-gold Rolex, but its also one of the rarest. While the case is identical to any 36mm Day-Date the white gold adds an understated stealth-wealth level to this piece. The watch certainly has an ‘if you know, you know’ element to it.
Like its less prestigious sibling the Datejust, The Day-Date was available with a wide variety and choice of bezels, finishes, and dials. Fitted not only with a stunning grey sunburst dial, this Day-Date also has a ‘Bark’ Finish Case and Bracelet. As the name would imply, the finish on the bezel and bracelet is designed to mimic the texture of pieces of bark on a tree. A testament to the quality of craft that Rolex was producing on these highly expensive and flagship watches in period. Going back to the dial, the grey sunburst catches the light beautifully and has brilliant preserved lume in matching patina throughout. When paired with the bark finish is makes for an extremely unique version of what is already a rare metal for the Day-Date family.
The case of this 1807/9 is well preserved with no signs of over polishing, and the signature Rolex President bracelet (in matching 18K White Gold, of course) is a period correct example with Oyster Clasp. While the Day-Date is still the flagship model of Rolex, case finishing like this has not been available in almost 25 years - making this a watch that not only conveys brand prestige, but individuality as well.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
