Hard to believe - but the Datejust has been around since 1945. It is far older than its bigger and attention-hogging Submariner brethren. The Datejust was Rolex’s idea of the perfect everyday watch. The robustness of the Oyster case, combined with the elegance of an Oyster Perpetual. The ‘4 digit’ series of Datejust are particularly attractive for their pie-pan dials which offer a layer of three-dimensionality to the dials that went away with the advent of quickset date and 5-digit Datejusts. These early Datejusts were available as the 1601 - with a fluted white gold bezel, or the 1603 - with an engine-turned steel bezel, like the present example. The 4-Digit series is also the first Datejust to become available in a myriad of colors and styles.
The present example is what is known as a ‘Confetti’ Dial. Owing its name to the specs of ‘confetti; that the dial has taken on over time. These started out life as a solid dark dial that has aged over the years to this confetti pattern (kind of like how AP dials ‘brass’ through), and is one of the more desirable and rare configurations. Combined with crisp, white printing, there is no arguing how attractive these are! With perfect pumpkin colored lume plots and and almost no signs of dial wear. As the icing on top - the present example still retains its original punched Rolex papers! Fitted to a period-correct USA-made Rolex jubilee bracelet, this is an incredible everyday wearing vintage watch for the person who wants something a little more special than a standard fare Datejust.

Returns (accepted within 3 days of initial delivery of your purchase) must be sent overnight or by priority international delivery, fully insured and paid for by the customer. For payments via Credit Card, a 5% restocking fee will be in place for any returns or cancellations in order to cover our processing fee. Of course, watches must be returned in the same condition as initially shipped.
If you happen to trade a watch with us, which we welcome, trades are final, except of course if the watch is grossly misdescribed or misrepresented.
We back each Oliver & Clarke timepiece with a one-year mechanical warranty starting at the date of first delivery. We service or perform necessary maintenance to the extent necessary to all of our watches, unless otherwise noted. All watches are listed and sold running and functioning as intended.
*Please note that due to the vintage or antique nature of many of our watches, these machines may not run as accurately as they did when new, nor will any mechanical timepiece keep time as accurately as a quartz or electronic device.
We do not guarantee water resistance, thus do not warranty against moisture incursion or water damage.
*We also do not recommend deliberate exposure to water or worse - steam!
Our warranty is voided under the following circumstances:
- Internal or external damage caused by an accident, mishandling, abuse, modification, or handling/service performed by a third party individual other than one of our own.
Our warranty is non-transferable.
