Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 - Rose Gold Olive Green Prototype Dial
Straight Facts
There are levels to collecting. For starters, this is a solid-gold Datejust which makes it incredibly rare to begin with - Rolex did not make a lot of these so it didn’t compete with its more expensive sibling, the solid-gold only Day-Date.
But the story here, is really the Prototype Rolex Dial…
The dial fitted to this stunning (and stunningly rare) Rose Gold case, is a rare example of a prototype dial. The dial is a vertically brushed dial with an olive green gradient to it. The dial, aside from the color, has a few interesting things to note. It does not feature the ‘Superlative Chronometer’ text - and it is devoid of it’s “SWISS” signature almost always found at the 6 position. It is worth noting that the back of the dial features the usual ‘Singer’ stamp - the hallmark of the Singer Dial company that was making all Rolex dials during this era. This is an unprecedented opportunity to grab a piece of Rolex history - as ultimately, this dial never made it into production.
Now that we have gotten the dial out of the way, let’s discuss the outstanding case. Of the all-gold Datejust’s - Rose Gold is the absolute rarest of them all, and this one is one of the most stunning over them all. The case is in truly unpolished condition with thick lugs all around and well preserved brushing to the tops of them. It is paired with an incredible and tight Rose Gold Jubilee bracelet, who’s condition matches that of the case. Overall, this is a once in a lifetime chance to own real Rolex history - the untold kind that whose only evidence is the existence of this very dial.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
