Cartier Baignoire Ref. 1967 - 18k 'Oval' Bracelet

Sale price$25,750.00 USD

The Cartier Baignoire can trace its origins to an early design by the the man himself, Louis Cartier, from 1912. That predates the more iconic Tank Louis by about 5-years and is amongst the first designs produced by the brand. Ultimately patented and officially named the 'Baignoire' in the 1950s, this is one of the Maison's longest running and oldest designs.

Like so many other pieces that Cartier made in the early days, the Baignoire went on to see many variations, utilizing different sizes, movements, dials, and strap designs throughout its 100 plus-years of production.

The example that we have here is hails from circa the late 1970s and is a very special example featuring a matching bracelet. The case is nicely sized, coming in at approximately 22.5mm x 30.5mm with an integrated-style oval-chain bracelet and a licking clasp. Both show normal signs of wear throughout and retain crisp and clear hallmarks, and there are quite a few of them. Inside, the cream-tone dial has printed black 'Roman' indices and a blued-steel 'sword' handset. It is powered by a handy quartz movement, which is set and operated by a sapphire cabochon crown at the 3 o'clock position.

By any standards, this is a very interested and not often seen piece from Cartiers rich history.
