Universal Genève Compax Ref. 222101/1

Sale price$4,500.00 USD

Universal Genève was one of the many great brands that succumbed to the quartz crisis of the 1970s. While they disappeared, it was not for their lack of impressive watches. To underscore that fact, keep in mind that Henri Stern Watch Agency in their nearly 80-year history has only ever sold two brands: Patek Philippe, and Universal Genève.

This watch hails from their mid-century efforts, known simply as the ‘Compax’. Far simpler than their better known high complication ‘Tri-Compax,' these elegant watches featured twisted-lug cases produced by Huguenin Frères and in-house Universal Genève calibres.

This Compax, a Reference 222101/1, remains in strong overall condition, with a beautiful brushed three-register silver dial, a dauphine handset, a signed crown, and manual-winding UG Cal. 281 within.

Design details like the brushed dial with the applied 'U' logo, the twisted-lug case, and subtle blue printing on the tachymetre scale culminate to form a chronograph that is equally sporty as it is elegant — a balance not easily achieved!

*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.

From Rolex & Patek Philippe, to Cartier & Audemars Piguet. As collectors first, we love the small details that separate the Submariner from Daytona and Calatrava from Royal Oak. This is why you'll find our curated assortment spans decades of generations of models and brands. We believe that watches don't just tell time, they tell history - and life is too short to wear a boring watch.
