Rolex Submariner Ref. 1680/8 Blue Rootbeer Tropical
Straight Facts
The Rolex Submariner is a true icon - and the word icon does get thrown around a lot. If you were to ask 10 people to draw you their idea of a watch looks like - chances are they would draw or describe something that looks like a Rolex Submariner. It’s the dive watch of reference good/bad/indifferent there is no escaping it. Over its 70 year run there have been numerous changes made to the model, but of all the variants - solid gold Submariners have a special place in our hearts (and collections!).
The Rolex Submariner is true tool watch - meant for and used by the most serious divers of all time. That being said, in 2023 how many of us are really using these for underwater exploration? When Rolex first introduced the solid gold Submariner, it was elevating this ‘everyman’ icon to a level of true prestige and luxury - desk diver reporting for duty!
Whats Better than a Gold Sub? One on Bracelet!
The present example is even more special and rare than just a gold 1680. It’s blue colors have aged to a ‘root-beer vignette’ color more closely associated with 1970s GMT-Masters. While the outer edges of the dial show signs of their original blue sunburst, the rest of the dial has aged to a stunning and unique brown root-beer color. The bezel is a GORGEOUS BLUE and GOLD color with exceptional lume color throughout. To top it all off, this piece is still fitted to its solid gold Rolex Oyster Bracelet! The visual heft of this piece is matched only by its gold weight! This is a special one, and with the 70th Anniversary of the Submariner in 2023, what better way to celebrate.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.

From Rolex & Patek Philippe, to Cartier & Audemars Piguet. As collectors first, we love the small details that separate the Submariner from Daytona and Calatrava from Royal Oak. This is why you'll find our curated assortment spans decades of generations of models and brands. We believe that watches don't just tell time, they tell history - and life is too short to wear a boring watch.
