Straight Facts

The Rolex GMT is the jet-setting icon of the Rolex sports watch family. The history of this sophisticated, versatile style dates back to 1954 when Rolex received a request from Pan Am to create a technical pilots watch that could indicate two time zones simultaneously. As advances in aviation made transcontinental flights commercially available Pan Am needed a watch that could be issued to their crews on the long-haul international flights. This first reference, the 6542 was a great success by design standards, but because of its fragility and high levels of radioactivity Rolex moved on to the reference 1675. The 1675 was almost a perfect model, but Rolex corrected the one quarrel some enthusiasts had with the model, and added a quickset date wheel that could be changed with a simple turn of the crown without having to rotate the time over and over. This efficient mechanism, made the Rolex even more practical for the modern professional, and this incredible example produced in 1984 exemplifies all the things that make the GMT amazing. Its solid gold case is thick and even and has developed a wonderful rosy patina throughout. The dial is the real star of the show though. It is not your typical rooter, it is very rare and coveted sunburst oxblood that is truly magnificent and gives rich tones that are not typically associated with the reference. Not to mention it comes with its original box, punched papers and serialized hangtag.

*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.

From Rolex & Patek Philippe, to Cartier & Audemars Piguet. As collectors first, we love the small details that separate the Submariner from Daytona and Calatrava from Royal Oak. This is why you'll find our curated assortment spans decades of generations of models and brands. We believe that watches don't just tell time, they tell history - and life is too short to wear a boring watch.
