Rolex Explorer Ref. 1016 Gilt Tropical W/ Papers

SOLD

Straight Facts

Exploration and adventure have always been a large part of the core of the Rolex brand, and after Sir Edmund Hillary’s successful ascent of Mount Everest in 1953 with a Rolex on his wrist, the brand had to act fast to capitalize on this great achievement. Later that same year they introduced the first “Explorer” model. A decade after its initial release the brand updated its premier model, with a new reference, the 1016. This new reference had a sleeker design that made it one of the most attractive and desirable pieces in the brand’s illustrious catalog. Although the 1016’s production lasted for over 35 years, this example happens to be on of the earliest and most desirable. It features a rare and ultra desirable glossy gilt dial that was only produced for three years in this reference, and has remained in absolutely immaculate and honest condition, with all of its original lacquer and luminous material intact and has even taken on an incredible dark chocolate shade on the right side. Matching the dial is the original gilt Mercedes handset with all of its original lume present. Its case while not unpolished, has remained in honest condition with sharp and thick edges. Not to mention that is also comes with its original papers and receipts from the famed Swiss retailer: Bucherer. This is truly a special piece and I couldn’t be happier to offer it in the Watch Shop!

*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
