Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller Ref. 1665 Mk. 2 Thin Case

SOLD

Straight Facts

The Sea-Dweller ref. 1665 first debuted circa 1967 and was designed for use during saturation diving. The main differences between the 'Red' Submariner and Double Red Sea-Dweller are the thicker case, the helium escape valve (HEV), the Sea-Dweller moniker on the dial, and the domed crystal without the Cyclops date lens. The origin of the nickname "Double Red" comes from the two-lines of red text on the dial reading “Sea-Dweller / Submariner 2000.” The present example is an extremely early and rare piece from 1968 and features a "Mark II" dial. This rare variation features the coveted “Thin Case” and happens to be one of the most desirable Sea Dwellers ever produced. . The stainless steel case is thick and even with no significant wear and the dial is in exceptional condition with lume that has patinated into a wonderful and ultra vibrant shade. Everything from the tight bracelet to the faded fat font insert makes this piece a true wonder.

*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
