Rolex Day-Date Ref. 1803 - Salmon Claw Dial
Straight Facts
When the Day-Date was released in 1956, it was the only complicated Rolex for sale. Hard to believe, but people didn’t want Rolex’s previous attempts at complicated wristwatches. All of that changed when President Dwight D. Eisenhower was spotted wearing the Rolex, and the watch became known as ‘The President’. An internationally known symbol of success and prestige, the Rolex Day-Date was available for many years on a strap or matching bracelet.
However, this is no ordinary ‘President’
The Day-Date has only ever been made in precious metals, and white gold is not only one of the stealthier ways to do a solid-gold Rolex, but its also one of the rarest. While the case is identical to any 36mm Day-Date the white gold adds an understated stealth-wealth level to this piece. The watch has an ‘if you know, you know’ element to it, and this particular watch, is fitted with an incredibly stunning - and truly one of the rarest dial variants known. The Salmon Claw No-Lume Dial.
Fitted to the iconic presidential bracelet, and finished a stunning salmon sunburst dial, this very early 1963 1803 is truly eye catching. The dial condition is flawless with a no-lume dial, applied white gold indices and matching no-lume sword handset. The outer track of this example has the white/silver printed rail-scale with no chips or signs of damage. The Oyster clasp Presidential has minimal signs of stretch, and the case is well preserved and was likely treasured for most of its life. The Day-Date is exceedingly special in it’s own right, and when you have such an early 1803 with a visually stunning and rare dial, its a combination for instant collectability.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
