Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5000R - Sunburst Pink 'Tiffany & Co.' Dial Box & Papers

The line has been a hit since its debut in 1932. So much so, that the name "Calatrava" itself has become something of a byword within the watch industry for traditionally styled, no-frills dress watches that simply tell the time. Over the course of its nearly 100-years of production, there have been seemingly countless iterations within the line, with variations in the metal they are made in, with their size, dial configurations, and eventually, complications.
The Calatrava that we have here is a lesser-known Reference 5000R from the mid-1990s. To start, the 33mm case is constructed out of solid rose gold and houses a pink dial inside — a very special and sought-after combination in the world of vintage watches. In traditional Calatrava fashion, the case is wonderfully executed simplicity, with nicely proportions lugs that gently slope downward, a polished 'domed' bezel in matching rose gold, and a very svelte profile. Flip it over, and Patek's Cal. 240/151 automatic-winding movement with a micro-rotor is visible via the sapphire caseback. The dial, however, might just be the best part of this piece. Pink in color, it features a beautiful sunburst finishing with applied rose gold 'Arabic' indices, black printed text, a black printed inner minute track, and a black printed subsidiary seconds register that is offset at the 4 o'clock position. The black printing is complimented by a black 'feuille' handset.
But It doesn't stop at pink-on-pink... look a little closer and you'll find an additional retailer stamp on the lower half of the dial from New York's Tiffany & Co.
Last but not least, this piece is accompanied by its inner and outer boxes, a leather folder with booklets, and certificate of origin confirming its sale at Tiffany & Co.
Rose gold Calatravas are uncommon to begin with... factor in the combination of the pink dial, the additional retailer signature, the overall condition, and you're left with a very special piece indeed.
