Movado Super Sub Sea Chronograph Ref. 206-705-502 - 'Cushion Case'

SOLD

While it may be hard to imagine based upon their product line today, Movado Laboratories (yes, that was the full name) once made watches that were beautifully designed, well made, and respected — up there with some other great manufacturers.

One of the more widely sought-after and collectible lines from the brand is the Sub Sea range, which includes wide a variety of movements, cases, dial configurations, and complications — a collectors fantasy!

The watch that we have here dates to circa the 1970s (if you couldn't tell!) and features a manual-winding chronograph movement from Zenith within a 40mm 'cushion' case. The matte black 'reverse-panda' dial is beautifully preserved, showing only very faint signs of wear in a few areas. It has an applied logo above the center post, applied indices throughout with gently patinated Tritium elements, and is complimented by a 'broad-arrow' handset showing a matching patina. An orange rehaut frames the dial and remains in phenomenal condition — retaining its vibrant orange color and is complimented by that almost hilarious orange 'lollipop' chronograph seconds hand.

This is a very interesting watch with many layers to its story. You've got venerable and respected, yet widely misunderstood brand intertwined with Zenith — another manufacture known for its chronograph movements. This piece has enthusiast written all over it.

From Rolex & Patek Philippe, to Cartier & Audemars Piguet. As collectors first, we love the small details that separate the Submariner from Daytona and Calatrava from Royal Oak. This is why you'll find our curated assortment spans decades of generations of models and brands. We believe that watches don't just tell time, they tell history - and life is too short to wear a boring watch.
