Hermès World Time Alarm Travel Clock - W/ Leather Zip-Pouch

Sale price$4,350.00 USD

The French company Hermès is primarily known for their high-end leather good and other luxury accessories, so you might say that 'watchmaking' is not immediately what comes to mind when you hear the name.

However, there is a story here. Like a handful of other brands known for their luxury items, Hermès did dip their feet into watches as far back as the 1920s and would eventually establish a watch division of the company in the late 1970s. Today, they have not only ramped up production to a point where they have a legitimate business in watchmaking under their own name, but with watches like the Slim D'Hermès series and the H08, they have also captured the attention of enthusiast and collector community. These pieces are exceptionally well made, technically innovative, and beautifully designed. Their leather straps aren't so bad either.

All of this said, you may have noticed that this isn't even a watch. So whats going on?

This is almost hard to imagine in 2025, but in the 20th century, travel clocks were not uncommon and plenty of familiar manufactures produced and sold them — Jaeger-LeCoultre, Movado, Cartier, just to name a few. These came in all different shapes and sizes and often featured alarm functions. It was also common to see these with some sort of outer leather sheath or protective shell as a part of the design so that they could be placed in a suitcase and quickly deployed on a nightstand when you arrived at your destination.

The piece that we have here is one such travel clock from Hermès. It hails from an era where Hermès was still likely outsourcing production and signing dials with their name to be retailed, so on the top half of the dial you will find a simple "Hermès Paris" signature. It has a 76mm case, with the outermost bezel acting as a world-time indicator with plenty of cities to choose from, and a 24-hr day/night ring on the inner ring. The beautiful dial features a 'brushed' silver finishing with a date aperture at the 6 o'clock position, applied 'nipple' and 'pencil' indices, and even luminous Tritium plots. The handset is of the 'dauphine'-style, which also features Tritium, and there is a third hand that acts as the alarm indicator. On the backside, the time, date, and alarm all have individual knobs for operation, and you will also find the hinged-ring that can be deployed to stand the clock up. Once collapsed, the hockey puck-sized clock can be stored perfectly with its brown Hermés leather zip-pouch.

The condition of this piece is simply fantastic, showing only light signs of wear throughout with no damage or blemishes. The dial is has a virtually flawless surface and the Tritium plots are all present and match the handset perfectly. The black paint within the worlds cities and on the bottom half of the day/night ring is also fantastic.

Now, hopefully you can see why we couldn't resist the chance to snag this wildly cool piece and offer it on the site!
