Eberhard and Co. Contograf Chronograph Ref. 31501-806 w/ Papers
Straight Facts
The Eberhard Contograf is one of the best looking and most interesting chronographs of the 20th century and when Eberhard introduced the Contograf in the 1960s, it was like nothing else on the market. From the company's beginning, Eberhard always tried to think outside the box and be innovative, hence the unusual date placement at six o'clock and date corrector at nine o'clock, not to mention the roulette-style date wheel. These little touches come together to give the watch so much subtle character. The Contograf is mostly black with a few red details (including the date wheel); the alternating red numbers on the date wheel match the red triangle at 12 on the bezel and the 50 at two o'clock on the dial. That red "50" in the tachymeter scale marks 50 km/hr, which at the time was the standard speed limit in most European countries. These details add to the overall sportiness of the Contograf. The present example has a rare luminous dial complete with Dauphine hands, something that is relatively uncommon for this model. This watch also comes with an Eberhard-signed bracelet, which is super rare by itself. Since these bracelets are folded metal, they tend to get stretched out, but this one has stayed very much intact. Not to mention this piece also comes with its original guarantee and service papers from Eberhard itself. The Contograf is a seldom-seen vintage chronograph, and this is a great opportunity to get a nice one with some character.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
