Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Jubilee Ref. 14802BA
Straight Facts
In 1992, twenty years after the launch of the iconic Gerald Genta-designed Royal Oak ref. 5402, Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak Jubilee ref. 14802 in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Of this production run, the vast majority came in stainless steel, while only a handful were produced in yellow gold and platinum. We’ve managed to snag one of these illusive homage pieces in gold. The ref. 14802 is a faithful reproduction with exactly the same proportions as the original ref. 5402 from 1972. The 14802 comes with the traditional ‘Jumbo’ case with a diameter of 39mm and a height of just 8.1 mm. As a result, this robust and sturdy watch still wears elegantly on the wrist. The characteristic octagonal case and integrated bracelet, courtesy of Gerald Genta, are executed in 18k yellow gold. The watch sports a slate grey dial with Audemars Piguet’s iconic 'Petite Tapisserie' finish. Just like the original ref. 5402 Royal Oak, this Jubilee edition is powered by the ultra-thin 2121 automatic movement, which is based on Jaeger-LeCoultre's legendary JLC 920 calibre. However, unlike the ref. 5402, this watch features a see-through sapphire case back that gives an unobstructed view of the beautiful skeletonized 21k yellow gold rotor. If you look closely, you’ll see that the cut-outs actually form an outline of the Royal Oak’s iconic octagonal bezel. The 18k gold case and integrated bracelet are in incredible like new shape with very little sings of wear and completely untouched chamfers. A true rarity of the Royal Oak line and in absolutely stunning condition.
*Some marks or spots on the dial are reflections or dust on the crystal and are due to high intensity strobe lighting used while photographing. They are not actually on the watch or visible in natural lighting.
