Rolex Ref. 4367 - "Grasshopper" Honeycomb Dial

Although we think of Rolex as the sports-watch manufacturer of Oyster Cases and Perpetual Movements, that is not always what they did. From its inception through to the mid-century, Rolex had a robust business based around dress watches - and had more than a few manually wound movements in its collection. These manually wound movements were always denoted by the word ‘Precision’ on the dial.
The present example is known as a reference 4367 - and is distinguished by its oversized ‘grasshopper’ styled lugs. These are similar to ‘Cornes de Vache’ and ‘Flame’ lugs, but the watch is overall likened to a Grasshopper because of how dramatically oversized the lugs are compared the the case itself. Despite a case diameter of only 34mm - it wears like a 38 or 39mm due to the sheer size and width added by these elegantly shaped steel lugs.
Beyond the case, the dial is a seemingly unqiue one as well. It is a honeycomb texture that Rolex was keen to use during the 40s and 50s on a few models - and that dial texturing is highly sought after by collectors of the brand. An applied Rolex Coronet at 12 in gold, along with golden applied hour indices and gold fueille handset, further the elegant appearance of this Rolex dress model. An incredibly clean dial, the old words printed are ‘Rolex Shock Resisting’ in a matching gold color. Touting their great advancements in shock proofing mechanical movements which is what made the wrist-watch economically viable. Paired with a seemingly unpolished and nearly unworn case, this is truly something special. The dial shares many of the same techniques and aesthetics with the highly valuable Rolex Padellone of this era - and it is a true wonder to be able to offer such a highly unique piece of Rolex history here at Oliver & Clarke.

For payments via Credit Card, a 5% restocking fee will be in place for any returns or cancellations in order to cover our processing fee. Of course, watches must be returned in the same condition as initially shipped.
