Rolex Datejust Ref. 6828 - Factory Pave Diamond Dial & Bezel
While the Datejust has been around since 1945 - there are many levels to collecting it. For starters, this is a solid-gold Datejust which makes it incredibly rare to begin with - as Rolex purposefully did not make a lot of these so it didn’t compete with its more expensive sibling, the solid-gold only Day-Date.
Except this is beyond “just” a solid gold Datejust.
This present example is even more special. Not long into its production run, Rolex began making the Datejust available with a wide variety and choice of bezels, finishes, and dials. By the 1980s - Rolex began making special references! That is exactly what we have here in the reference 6828 which features a number of special and unique characteristics. For starters, the Rolex font and logo is engraved onto the crystal. That is right, Rolex actually engraved in-reverse, on the inside of the crystal, its signature Coronet and Brand Name. Beyond that unique detail, the handset is done in black enamel. Why? To match the black enamel doorstop markers at the 6,9, and 12 positions. By now, you have also likely noticed that the dial is entirely done in pavé diamonds and topped off with a matching diamond bezel. Those afraid of bling, need not apply!
As one would expect, the 6828 is fitted to the iconic 18K yellow gold Presidential bracelet, making this Carousel a stunner with quick-set date to boot. As we have mentioned before the diamonds that Rolex chooses to use for its watches are of the highest quality and play off beautifully against the yellow gold and black onyx markers. The concealed clasp Presidential has minimal of stretch, and the case is well preserved and ready for its next owner. There are levels to the Datejust - and this might be pretty close to the endgame.
